FIIDS Leads Indian American Delegation in Capitol Hill Push for U.S.-India Ties, Immigration Reform

The Federation of Indian Associations of the United States (FIIDS) led a delegation of Indian American community leaders to Capitol Hill to advocate for stronger bilateral ties between the United States and India, as well as comprehensive immigration reform. The delegation met with lawmakers and their staff to discuss key issues affecting the Indian diaspora.

During the meetings, the delegation emphasized the importance of the U.S.-India strategic partnership, highlighting areas such as trade, defense, and technology cooperation. They urged lawmakers to support legislation that would strengthen economic and security ties between the two nations.

On immigration, the delegation called for reforms that would address the backlog of employment-based green cards, increase the availability of H-1B visas, and provide a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. They stressed the contributions of Indian Americans to the U.S. economy and society.

The FIIDS delegation also discussed the need for continued support for India's role in the Indo-Pacific region and collaboration on global challenges such as climate change and public health. The meetings were part of FIIDS's ongoing efforts to amplify the voice of the Indian American community in Washington.

The delegation included leaders from various Indian American organizations and professionals from sectors including technology, healthcare, and education. FIIDS plans to continue its advocacy work and engage with policymakers on issues important to the community.
