Indiaspora maps 250 years of Indian American influence before US milestone

Indiaspora, a nonprofit organization, has published a timeline documenting 250 years of Indian American influence in the United States. The project aims to highlight the community's contributions ahead of the US semiquincentennial in 2026.

The timeline, titled '250 Years of Indian American Impact,' covers milestones from the late 18th century to the present day. It includes early arrivals, civil rights activism, business achievements, and political representation.

Indiaspora founder M.R. Rangaswami said the timeline is meant to educate both the Indian American community and the broader public about the long history of Indian influence in the United States. The organization plans to update the timeline regularly.

The project coincides with preparations for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, which has spurred discussions about the contributions of various immigrant groups to American society.
