Indian Diaspora: 35M Strong, $130B+ Remittances

The Indian diaspora, numbering 35 million people worldwide, represents just 2.5 percent of India's population but wields significant economic and political influence. India receives over $130 billion in remittances each year from its overseas community, according to available data.

Indian Americans, who make up 1.5 percent of the U.S. population, have a median household income exceeding $150,000. The community has produced chief executives at major corporations including Microsoft, Google, and the World Bank.

Overseas Indians have established more than 1,600 global capability centers valued at $60 billion. The diaspora holds prominent positions in politics and business in countries such as Mauritius, Trinidad, Guyana, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States.

The diaspora's global spread includes a strong presence in Silicon Valley, where Indian-origin entrepreneurs and executives have founded or led numerous technology companies.
