A US-based non-resident Indian was arrested in Bengaluru on charges of illegally possessing seven live bullets, police said. The arrest occurred at Kempegowda International Airport after security personnel detected the ammunition during routine screening.
The accused, identified as a 45-year-old man who had recently arrived from the United States, was taken into custody by the airport police. The bullets were found in his checked luggage, prompting an immediate investigation.
Police registered a case under the Arms Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for illegal possession of ammunition. The man was produced before a local court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
Authorities are probing how the bullets came into his possession and whether they were brought from the US or acquired locally. The accused claimed he was unaware of the ammunition in his bag, police said.
