Cursor Launches India Office Ahead of SpaceX Acquisition

The office, slated to open in Bengaluru, will house engineering and support teams, according to a company spokesperson. The move comes as Cursor prepares for its acquisition by SpaceX, a deal announced last month that is expected to close later this year.

Cursor's user base in India has grown from roughly 1 million to over 3 million developers in the past year, the spokesperson said. The company attributes the surge to the introduction of a localized pricing plan, Cursor Start, which costs ₹649 per month and includes access to the platform's core AI features.

The Bengaluru office will initially employ around 50 people, with plans to double that number within two years. The team will focus on improving the platform's performance for users in the region and on developing features tailored to the Indian market.

The expansion is part of Cursor's broader strategy to strengthen its presence in Asia, where demand for AI-assisted coding tools is rising. The company said it chose Bengaluru for its deep talent pool in software engineering and its established startup ecosystem.

The SpaceX acquisition, which has yet to receive regulatory approval, is expected to provide Cursor with additional resources to accelerate its global expansion. Cursor will continue to operate as an independent subsidiary under the deal.
