Toronto police arrested Sharnjeet Singh, 37, in connection with the shooting death of Navneet Kaur, 26. Singh, also of Indian descent, faces a charge of first-degree murder. The arrest followed an investigation into the incident, which occurred in the city's west end.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting on Tuesday evening. Upon arrival, they found Kaur suffering from gunshot wounds. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The exact location and circumstances of the shooting have not been disclosed by authorities.

Police have not released a motive for the attack. Singh was taken into custody without incident and appeared in court on Wednesday. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.

The Consulate General of India in Toronto has offered assistance to Kaur's family. Community members have expressed shock over the killing, with some organizing a vigil in her memory. The investigation is ongoing, and police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
