Aaradhya Sunder Wins 7th Arts Olympiad in Washington DC

The International Child Art Foundation presented Sunder with a Certificate of Exceptional Artistic Accomplishment at a ceremony on the National Mall, part of the 7th World Children's Festival that marked the 250th birthday of the United States. Dr. Ashfaq M. Ishaq, the foundation's founder and chairman, signed the certificate.

Sunder's acrylic on canvas work depicts a basketball hoop in thin red outline alongside figures holding a ball and a paintbrush, set against a pale palette divided by a vertical gold line and horizontal bands. The piece argues that children should not have to choose between creativity and athletic discipline or be defined by a single talent.

"I did not want to show art and sport as separate," said Sunder, who participates in multiple sports alongside her visual art. Dr. Ishaq conducted an appraisal of the painting during the festival, reading the basketball as a symbol of movement, concentration, perseverance, and practice.

"What distinguishes Aaradhya is not merely her ability to make art, but her emerging capacity to use art as a means of thought," Ishaq wrote. He recommended that Sunder continue exploring anatomy, proportion, and movement across different media and athletic forms, and suggested she be considered for curated youth exhibitions, museum education programs, and international mentorship.

Following the ceremony, Sunder appeared on Good Morning Washington on WJLA/ABC7 to discuss her creative process. Her previous honors include displaying six claymation works at the Gallery Children's Biennale at National Gallery Singapore, receiving laureate honors at an international children's art exhibition in Beijing, and presenting at three TEDx-linked art exhibitions. Her works have also been shown at Art Capital at the Grand Palais in Paris, where Alain Bazard, president of the painting section at the Société des Artistes Français, reviewed her self-portrait The Girl Who Paints Her Soul and noted her technical maturity.
