Trump Praises Walmart Price Reductions Following White House Appeal

President Donald Trump on Monday said Walmart will lower prices on a range of products after a request from his administration, calling the retailer "truly patriotic." He also urged other companies to follow its example as the United States prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Walmart had agreed to reduce prices "by a lot," including cutting the price of ground beef by nearly 15 percent. He described the move as a major benefit for millions of Americans and credited his administration with encouraging the retailer to make the reductions.

Walmart confirmed that it is rolling back prices across hundreds of items at its stores and Sam's Club locations, including ground beef, soft drinks, fresh produce, snacks, grills, toys, apparel, and other seasonal merchandise. However, the retailer's announcement did not mention the White House or say the discounts were made at the administration's request.

The company said the promotions are intended to help customers save money during the summer shopping season. Some of the discounts had already begun before Trump's social media post, according to people familiar with the rollout.

The announcement comes as food prices, particularly beef, remain elevated due to reduced cattle herds, higher feed costs, and lingering inflationary pressures. The Trump administration has also pursued measures aimed at lowering food prices, including investigations into alleged price manipulation in the meat industry and efforts to expand beef supplies.
