Trump Rhetoric Normalizes Anti-Indian Hate, Warns Lawmaker

Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Ill.) made the remarks during an appearance on the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus' video series, where he discussed the effects of anti-immigrant rhetoric on Asian American communities and the economy.

Krishnamoorthi, co-chair of CAPAC's Immigration Task Force, said Trump's language since taking office has exploited fears of outsiders, and over a decade, this has led to a normalization of hate toward groups including Chinese Americans and Indian Americans.

He also criticized the administration's $100,000 fee for H-1B visa applications, arguing it would deter skilled workers from choosing the United States. The fee, he said, targets people who fill critical technology roles and could push them away or make them reconsider staying.

The H-1B program is widely used by U.S. tech firms to hire foreign professionals, many from India. Krishnamoorthi stressed that America's economic strength depends on attracting global talent, and he voiced optimism about the country's future despite current policy debates.
