Indian students pursuing business degrees in the United States face mounting challenges as visa rules tighten and corporate sponsorship declines. A survey by the Financial Express found that only 29% of U.S. companies are open to hiring foreign business school graduates, a sharp drop from 55% in 2022.

Major corporate heavyweights, including retail giant Walmart, have paused offering office roles to candidates who require H-1B visa sponsorship. This shift significantly reduces employment opportunities for international graduates, particularly those from India who rely on employer-sponsored visas to work in the U.S. after completing their studies.

The tightening of visa rules and reduction in corporate sponsorship come amid broader policy changes that have made it harder for foreign students to transition from academic programs to professional careers in the United States. Indian students, who form a large portion of the international student population in U.S. business schools, are among the most affected by these developments.
