19-Year-Old UC Santa Cruz Student Killed After Car Plunges Off Cliff

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office identified the deceased as Alli Renee Singh, a resident of Santa Cruz. The crash occurred on August 13, 2026, when the vehicle went over the cliff and landed in the Pacific Ocean.

Emergency crews responded to the scene near Steamer Lane, a popular surfing spot. The driver, whose name has not been released, was pulled from the water and taken to a local hospital. Their condition is unknown.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not said whether speed, alcohol, or other factors played a role.

UC Santa Cruz officials expressed condolences, noting Singh was a student at the university. Counseling services were offered to students and staff affected by the loss.
