WhatsApp Group Chat Upgrades: Polls, @All Tag, and Spin-Off Rooms

The updated polls allow group admins to set a closing time for voting, hide the names of voters, and edit the poll question within 15 minutes of posting. These options aim to streamline decision-making in groups, especially when a deadline is involved or when members prefer to vote anonymously.

The @all mention, previously available to all members, is now restricted to admins in groups with more than 32 participants. Users can also adjust notification settings to mute @all alerts, giving them more control over how often they are pinged.

A new feature lets users create a separate group chat from an existing one with a single tap, pulling in selected members without manually adding each person. This is designed for situations where a smaller subset of a large group needs to coordinate separately, such as planning an event or organizing a surprise party.

These additions follow other group chat improvements rolled out earlier this year, including message history, member tags, and event reminders. The features are being introduced gradually, according to WhatsApp.
