Ruddarraju, who previously worked at Elon Musk's xAI, will lead the company's efforts to expand its computing infrastructure. His responsibilities include managing the construction of data centers worldwide, deploying massive GPU clusters, and coordinating semiconductor hardware development.

The appointment comes as OpenAI races to secure the massive computing power needed to train and run its next-generation frontier AI models. Ruddarraju's team will be tasked with ensuring the company has the physical and technical capacity to support increasingly complex AI systems.

Before joining OpenAI, Ruddarraju held a senior engineering role at xAI, where he contributed to the development of large-scale AI infrastructure. His move to OpenAI was first reported earlier this year, and his new title formalizes his leadership position within the company's compute division.

OpenAI has been aggressively investing in data center capacity and chip design to reduce its reliance on external suppliers and maintain a competitive edge in the AI industry. Ruddarraju's appointment underscores the strategic importance of compute resources in the company's long-term roadmap.
