Home Depot CEO Ted Decker Takes Medical Leave; Interim Leadership Named

Campbell, who joined Home Depot in 1985 as a cashier and rose to senior executive vice president of U.S. stores and operations, will oversee day-to-day operations. McPhail, the company's chief financial officer since September 2019 and an employee since 2005, will manage financial reporting and the Pro subsidiaries.

Independent lead director Greg Brenneman will chair the board during Decker's leave. Brenneman expressed confidence in the interim leadership, citing their combined experience and long working relationship.

Home Depot, which operates 2,361 retail stores and more than 1,280 SRS locations across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and U.S. territories, employs over 470,000 associates. The company is scheduled to report its second-quarter earnings next week.

The company announced the leadership change on Wednesday, stating Decker's leave would last for the next few months. No further details about his condition were provided.
