Home Depot CEO Ted Decker Takes Medical Leave; Interim Leadership Named

Home Depot announced Wednesday that CEO Ted Decker will take a temporary medical leave of absence for the next few months. During his absence, two senior executives will jointly assume leadership duties, the company said in a statement.

Ann-Marie Campbell, senior executive vice president of U.S. stores and operations, will oversee day-to-day operations. Campbell, who joined Home Depot in 1985 as a cashier, has risen through the ranks to her current role. Richard McPhail, executive vice president and chief financial officer, will manage financial reporting and the company's Pro subsidiaries. McPhail, who joined in 2005, has been CFO since September 2019.

Independent lead director Greg Brenneman will serve as chairman of the board during Decker's leave. Brenneman expressed confidence in the interim leadership, noting that Campbell and McPhail have worked together for over 20 years and are part of the best management team in retail.

Home Depot, the world's largest home improvement retailer, operates 2,361 retail stores and more than 1,280 SRS locations across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and U.S. territories. The company employs over 470,000 associates and is scheduled to report its second-quarter earnings next week.
