Indian-American Shrey Parikh Triumphs at 2023 Scripps National Spelling Bee

Shrey Parikh, an Indian-American student, won the 2023 Scripps National Spelling Bee. The competition took place in National Harbor, Maryland.

Parikh correctly spelled the winning word, "psammophile," which refers to an organism that thrives in sandy soil. He outlasted other finalists in a tense final round.

This marks another victory for Indian-American spellers, who have dominated the bee in recent years. Parikh, a seventh-grader from California, took home a cash prize of $50,000.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee has been held annually since 1925, drawing top spellers from across the United States and abroad.
