The 27-year-old France striker scored 10 goals in the 2026 tournament, two more than his 2022 total of eight. He finished three goals ahead of his closest rival, Brazil's Vinícius Júnior, who netted seven.

Mbappé found the net in five of France's seven matches, including a hat trick in the quarterfinal against Argentina and a brace in the semifinal against England. His only scoreless outing came in the group stage draw with Denmark.

The Golden Boot award caps a dominant tournament for Mbappé, who also provided three assists. France reached the final but lost to Brazil 3-2 in extra time.

Mbappé's achievement surpasses the previous record of consecutive Golden Boots held by Brazil's Ronaldo, who won in 1998 and 2002 but missed the 2006 edition due to injury. No other male player had won the award in back-to-back tournaments.
