Reliance and Rolls-Royce Partner for AMCA Fighter Jet Engine

The proposed collaboration aims to create an end-to-end capability in India, covering design, development, manufacturing, testing, production, and long-term support of the combat engine. The companies also plan to explore setting up an Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex in India, which would focus on power and propulsion technology and support the complete engine development cycle.

Anant Ambani, Executive Director of Reliance Industries, emphasized the importance of sovereign capability in critical technologies for India's strategic autonomy. He said the partnership would combine Rolls-Royce's expertise in advanced propulsion with Reliance's technology, manufacturing scale, and execution capabilities to build an enduring national capability.

The partnership is seen as a direct challenge to France's Safran, which has been competing for the lucrative defense contract. The alliance guarantees India full intellectual property rights, a key requirement for the AMCA programme.

Beyond the AMCA engine, the partnership could open doors to wider cooperation in defense, civil aerospace, and new power and propulsion systems, potentially making India globally competitive in advanced propulsion technologies.
