Elderly woman with family at airport immigration counter, visa issues

The woman was traveling from India to Seattle when airline staff in Singapore informed her that her visa had been canceled while she was in the air. The revocation was linked to an earlier visit to the United States where she had overstayed by two days, according to her son-in-law.

Her family had booked the flight through a travel agent, and she was stopped during a layover in Singapore. The airline refused to let her continue to the US, and she was put on a return flight to India the same day.

The son-in-law said the family was not notified about the visa cancellation before the trip. They had checked her visa status prior to booking and were told it was valid, he added.

The incident has left the family frustrated, as they had planned the trip months in advance. The woman, who has visited the US before, now faces the prospect of applying for a new visa, though her family is unsure how the overstay will affect her future applications.

US immigration rules state that overstaying a visa, even briefly, can lead to revocation and future inadmissibility. The family is considering contacting the US embassy in India to seek clarification on the matter.
