The senators, led by Edward Markey of Massachusetts and Elizabeth Warren, sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Wednesday, pressing for immediate reforms to Immigration and Customs Enforcement practices.

They specifically called for a requirement that all ICE officers wear body cameras during enforcement actions, citing the recent deaths of two individuals during operations in Houston and Maine as evidence of the need for greater transparency.

The letter also demanded clarification on hiring and identification standards for agents, as well as an explanation of vehicle-stop procedures, which the senators said have become inconsistent amid shifting enforcement directives from the Biden administration.

The senators asked Mayorkas to respond within 30 days, detailing how the department plans to address the concerns and whether it will implement the requested changes.
