Thomas, who currently serves as a board member, will transition to the chair-elect role immediately, working alongside current chair Dr. Janis Orlowski before assuming the top position. The university announced the appointment on Tuesday.
A managing director at a major financial services firm, Thomas has spent over two decades advising state and local governments on infrastructure and public finance projects. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Southwestern University and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin.
As chair-elect, Thomas will help guide the university's strategic planning, including its $150 million fundraising campaign and expansion of STEM programs. He succeeds Orlowski, who has served as chair since 2021 and will remain on the board.
Thomas has been an active alumnus, previously serving as president of the university's alumni association and as a member of its investment committee. He also mentors students through the business school's career development program.
The board of trustees oversees the university's $200 million endowment and approves major policy decisions. Thomas's term as chair will run for three years, with the possibility of renewal.
