The average resale price for a quarterfinal ticket has fallen from $1,200 to around $480, according to ticket marketplace data. The steepest drops are for matches in cities that were expected to draw large American and Portuguese fan bases, including Boston and Dallas.

The United States lost to Mexico in a penalty shootout on July 4, while Portugal was eliminated by Morocco two days later. Both defeats triggered a wave of listings from fans looking to offload tickets, flooding the secondary market.

Ticket resale platforms reported a 300% increase in new listings within 24 hours of each elimination. Supply now far outstrips demand, driving prices down for the remaining eight teams' matches.

The quarterfinals are scheduled for July 9-11 across four U.S. venues. Organizers expect attendance to remain high, but the financial windfall for scalpers and resellers has evaporated.

Some fans who bought tickets at face value are now selling at a loss. A spokesperson for a major resale site said, 'We are seeing sellers adjust prices rapidly to match the new demand reality.'
