Indian Students Second Among Record UK University Applicants

The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) reported that Indian students submitted 30% more undergraduate applications this year than last, maintaining their position as the second-largest group of international applicants after China. The increase comes despite stricter visa regulations introduced by the UK government.

UCAS data shows that the overall number of international applicants reached a record high, with India contributing significantly to the growth. While China still leads in total applications, the gap has narrowed as Indian interest in UK higher education continues to climb.

The surge in applications is attributed to the perceived quality of UK degrees and the availability of post-study work opportunities, although new visa rules have raised concerns among prospective students. The UK government has tightened dependant visa eligibility and increased salary thresholds for skilled worker visas, which may affect future enrollment.
