2026 FIFA World Cup Prize Pool Hits Record USD 871 Million

The 2026 tournament, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will distribute the funds across 104 matches, up from 64 in the 2022 edition. The prize money marks a 37 percent increase over the USD 640 million pool in Qatar, where Argentina claimed the title and received USD 42 million.

FIFA’s decision to expand the field from 32 to 48 teams drives the larger payout, with more participating nations eligible for a share. The governing body has not yet detailed the exact distribution for all 48 teams, but the winner’s share alone represents a 19 percent jump from the previous tournament.

The record pool reflects rising commercial revenue from broadcast rights, sponsorship deals, and ticket sales, which FIFA has cited as a factor in boosting prize money. The 2026 edition will be the first to feature 48 teams and will be played across 16 cities in the three host countries.

FIFA has said the increased prize fund aims to reward teams for their performance while supporting football development globally. The tournament is scheduled to run from June 11 to July 19, 2026, with the final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
