2026 FIFA World Cup Prize Pool Hits Record USD 871 Million

The 2026 tournament, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will see a 20 percent increase in total prize money compared to the 2022 edition in Qatar, which offered USD 440 million. The winners' share of USD 50 million is up from USD 42 million in 2022.

The expanded format, featuring 48 teams and 104 matches, up from 32 teams and 64 matches in 2022, has driven higher broadcast and sponsorship revenues, allowing FIFA to boost payouts. The prize pool also includes participation fees for all 48 qualifying nations, with each team guaranteed at least USD 9.5 million.

FIFA's decision to increase the prize fund comes as the global football body faces pressure from players' unions and national associations to distribute more revenue to clubs and players, given the added workload of the longer tournament.

The 2026 World Cup is scheduled to run from June 11 to July 19 across 16 host cities in North America. The final will be held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
