Indian National Mitul Patel Sentenced, Ordered Deported in US Visa Fraud Case

Mitul Patel, 40, unlawfully resided in Worcester, Massachusetts, after entering the United States on a visa that he later violated. A federal court sentenced him to one day in prison, which he had already served, and imposed a $1,000 fine.

Patel was convicted of visa fraud, a charge that stemmed from his attempts to remain in the country beyond the terms of his lawful admission. The court also ordered his deportation following the sentencing.

The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's office for the District of Massachusetts. Patel's sentencing marks the conclusion of legal proceedings that began with his arrest and subsequent guilty plea.

Immigration authorities will now carry out the deportation order, returning Patel to India. The sentence reflects the court's determination that Patel's continued presence in the United States was unlawful.
