Participants can register in advance through the KAN website, with entries judged on taste, presentation, and authenticity. Winners will receive gift cards and a trophy, with the top prize going to the best overall payasam. The contest is open to all ages, and organizers encourage both experienced cooks and newcomers to join.

The payasam contest is part of a larger Onam program organized by KAN, which includes cultural performances, traditional games, and a feast. The event will be held at the KAN community hall in Irving, Texas, on September 14, starting at 11 a.m. Admission is free for KAN members, with a nominal fee for non-members.

KAN has been hosting Onam celebrations for over a decade, drawing hundreds of attendees each year. The payasam contest was introduced last year and received an enthusiastic response, prompting the association to make it an annual feature. Organizers hope this year's contest will attract even more participants and celebrate the rich culinary heritage of Kerala.
