The fellowship, established with a gift from the Bhatias, will support graduate students in the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. The couple, both alumni of the university, said they wanted to give back to the institution that helped shape their careers.

Jyoti P. Bhatia earned a master's degree in electrical engineering from UT Dallas in 1984, and Nishi Bhatia earned a master's in computer science in 1985. They have been longtime supporters of the university, previously funding scholarships and other initiatives.

The new fellowship will provide financial assistance to graduate students pursuing research in engineering and computer science, with a preference for those from underrepresented backgrounds. The university plans to award the first fellowship in the upcoming academic year.

In a statement, the Bhatias expressed hope that the fellowship will enable more students to pursue advanced degrees and contribute to technological innovation. UT Dallas officials thanked the couple for their continued generosity and commitment to education.
