Vancouver Indian Summer Festival 2026: A Celebration of Diaspora Arts

The 11-day festival, held across Metro Vancouver, featured a diverse lineup that included Punjabi folk, Sufi music, hip-hop, comedy, and plant-music installations. Organizers said the theme reflected a desire to use art to address global fractures and foster healing.

Artists from more than 20 countries participated, with performances and exhibits staged at venues ranging from intimate community centers to large outdoor stages. The festival also included workshops and panel discussions that explored the role of diaspora arts in cultural preservation and social commentary.

One of the standout installations was a plant-music piece that used biofeedback to create soundscapes, drawing audiences into a meditative experience. Comedy shows and hip-hop performances attracted younger crowds, while traditional Punjabi folk and Sufi acts appealed to multigenerational attendees.

The festival, which has run annually for over a decade, is known for strengthening ties within the South Asian diaspora and introducing contemporary South Asian art to broader audiences. Organizers have not yet announced dates for the 2027 edition.
