Uyghur Congress Blasts German Deportation of Member to China

The World Uyghur Congress and the Society for Threatened Peoples issued statements on Tuesday denouncing the removal of Arafat Adil, a 21-year-old dual Chinese-Turkish national, from Frankfurt Airport to Beijing. The groups said the deportation violated international law, which prohibits returning individuals to countries where they face a real risk of persecution.

Adil, who had been living in Germany, was put on a flight to China on Monday. His supporters claim he faced imminent danger because of his Uyghur ethnicity, given the Chinese government's ongoing crackdown on Uyghurs in the Xinjiang region.

The Society for Threatened Peoples called the deportation a 'serious breach of international law' and urged the German government to explain its decision. The World Uyghur Congress accused Berlin of ignoring evidence of human rights abuses in Xinjiang, including mass detention and forced labor.

Germany's Federal Office for Migration and Refugees has not publicly commented on the case. The deportation comes amid heightened scrutiny of Germany's asylum policies and its treatment of Uyghur applicants.

Human rights advocates have repeatedly called on Germany to halt deportations to China, citing the risk of torture and arbitrary detention. The case has sparked protests from Uyghur diaspora groups in Europe, who are demanding Adil's return to Germany.
