Pathak, who has lived in Fremont for over two decades, made the announcement at a community gathering in the district. She cited her work on the Human Relations Commission and her volunteer efforts in mental health as preparation for addressing the city's challenges.

Her campaign will focus on public safety, housing affordability, and supporting small businesses. Pathak said she wants to bring a collaborative approach to the council, emphasizing listening to residents and finding practical solutions.

The District 4 seat is currently held by Councilmember Raj Salwan, who is term-limited and cannot seek re-election. Pathak is the first candidate to formally enter the race.

The primary election is scheduled for June 2026, with the general election in November. Pathak said she plans to spend the coming months meeting with voters and community groups across the district.
