Frisco Mayor Joins Telugu Community at Bonalu Festival

The Dallas Telugu Alai Balai Sangham (D-TABS) hosted its annual Bonalu celebration on Sunday, August 2, 2026, drawing hundreds of attendees from the local Telugu-speaking community. The event took place at the Frisco Flyers Event Center, a shift from previous outdoor gatherings due to the summer heat.

Mayor Hill participated in the festivities, offering prayers alongside community members and observing the cultural performances that marked the occasion. His presence underscored the city's growing diversity, as Frisco's Indian American population has expanded significantly in recent years.

Bonalu, a festival dedicated to the goddess Mahakali, is traditionally celebrated in the Telangana region of India. The D-TABS event featured traditional music, dance, and food, providing a taste of home for diaspora families and an educational experience for younger generations born in the U.S.

Organizers said the indoor venue allowed for a more comfortable and intimate setting, fostering a sense of community among attendees. The event concluded with a communal meal and a vote of thanks to the mayor for his support of the Telugu community.
