Wayne NJ Temple hosts Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra 2026, showcasing Hindu culture.

The India Cultural Society of New Jersey, in partnership with the Odisha Society of New Jersey and New York, held its annual Sri Jagannath Ratha Yatra on the grounds of the local temple. The event drew hundreds of devotees and community members who gathered to witness the traditional chariot procession.

This year's celebration marked the 21st anniversary of the festival's organization by the local community. Organizers noted the milestone as a testament to the dedication of volunteers and the growing interest in Odia culture and traditions among the Indian diaspora in the region.

The procession featured a decorated chariot carrying the deities Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra, accompanied by devotional songs and dance performances. Attendees pulled the chariot by ropes, following the centuries-old ritual that symbolizes the deities' annual visit to their aunt's home.

Following the procession, cultural programs showcased Odia music, dance, and cuisine, offering participants a taste of the eastern Indian state's heritage. The event also served as a platform for community bonding and intergenerational transmission of cultural practices.

Organizers expressed gratitude to the volunteers and sponsors whose efforts made the celebration possible, and they look forward to continuing the tradition in the years ahead.
