Wayne NJ Temple hosts Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra 2026, showcasing Hindu culture.

The India Cultural Society of New Jersey and the Odisha Society of New Jersey/New York jointly organized the Sri Jagannath Ratha Yatra on the temple grounds in Wayne, drawing devotees from across the tri-state area.

This year's procession featured a decorated chariot carrying the deities Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra, followed by traditional music, dance, and chanting. Organizers said the event has grown steadily since its inception, with volunteers from both societies coordinating logistics, food, and cultural programs.

The festival, which replicates the famous Puri chariot festival in Odisha, included rituals such as the pulling of the chariot ropes by attendees, symbolizing the journey of the deities to their aunt's home. Local officials and community leaders were present to offer greetings.

The collaboration between the two societies has been key to sustaining the annual event, according to organizers, who noted that the yatra has become a cultural highlight for the region's Indian American community.
