Thousands of devotees have joined the annual Ashadhi Wari pilgrimage in Maharashtra, walking to the town of Pandharpur. The pilgrimage, which takes place in the Hindu month of Ashadha, involves devotees carrying palanquins with the images of saints. Many participants walk barefoot for hundreds of kilometers as an act of devotion.
The pilgrimage is dedicated to the Hindu deity Vithoba, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Devotees, known as warkaris, sing devotional songs and chant prayers along the route. The journey culminates at the Vithoba temple in Pandharpur.
Authorities have made arrangements for the pilgrims, including medical camps, food stalls, and water stations. Security personnel have been deployed to ensure safety. The pilgrimage is expected to continue for several days as more devotees join the march.
