London Festival Celebrates Northeast India’s 8 States and Diaspora Culture

The festival, held over two days in central London, drew thousands of attendees from across the UK and beyond. Organizers said it was the first event of its kind to bring together the diverse cultures of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura under one roof.

Visitors sampled traditional dishes such as Assam's fish curry and Nagaland's smoked pork, while artisans displayed handwoven textiles and bamboo crafts from the region. Music performances ranged from Bihu folk tunes to contemporary rock by bands with roots in the Northeast.

Community leaders and diaspora members used the festival to connect younger generations with their heritage. Workshops on traditional dance, language classes, and storytelling sessions were held for children and adults alike.

The event also served as a platform for networking among professionals and entrepreneurs from the Northeast Indian community in the UK. Several attendees expressed hopes that the festival would become an annual fixture on London's cultural calendar.
