Over 25,000 Gather in San Jose for SWADES 2026 India Celebration

The August 15 event, organized by the Association of Indo Americans (AIA), drew families, cultural groups, business leaders, and elected officials from across the Bay Area. The parade route through Downtown San Jose featured more than 80 floats and marching units representing Indian states, traditions, and local organizations.

An 80-foot India and USA Flag Walk and a Tiranga Walk were part of the procession, alongside live music and cultural performances. Pannu, known for films addressing social themes and women's empowerment, led the parade as thousands lined the route.

Dignitaries at the flag-hoisting ceremony included Consul General of India Dr. Srikar Reddy, San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan, U.S. Congressmember Sam Liccardo, Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen, and California Assemblymembers Ash Kalra and Patrick Ahrens, among more than 40 elected officials.

Youth engagement was a focus, with over 100 children performing classical and film dances. Competitions in art, chess, and essay writing offered additional ways for young participants to connect with Indian heritage.

The free Day & Night Mela continued into the evening with food vendors, a shopping marketplace, and family activities. The Vijay Bharat showcase featured dance performances from various Indian states. AIA thanked volunteers, performers, city partners, and sponsors, including grand sponsor Sanjiv Gupta, CPA, and platinum sponsor Lavanya Duvvi.
