Siddhartha Sikdar, a professor of bioengineering at George Mason University, has been elected to the Virginia Academy of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (VASEM). His new role places him among a select group of experts who provide nonpartisan counsel to the Commonwealth's policymakers.

Sikdar's research focuses on developing non-invasive imaging and sensing technologies to improve rehabilitation and musculoskeletal care. His election to VASEM recognizes his contributions to biomedical engineering and his potential to inform decisions on healthcare innovation.

As a VASEM member, Sikdar will participate in studies and reports that guide state legislation and regulations. His expertise is expected to be particularly relevant as Virginia addresses challenges in telehealth, medical device development, and aging-related health issues.

Sikdar joined George Mason in 2008 and directs the Bioengineering Department's research in ultrasound-based diagnostics. He has published extensively and holds patents for technologies that could translate into clinical practice.

His election was announced by the academy, which comprises leaders from academia, industry, and government. VASEM's membership is limited to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their fields.
