Pradhan Outlines New Digital Consular Services for Indians Abroad

The new measures include streamlined online application portals for visa and welfare services, designed to reduce reliance on intermediaries and speed up processing. Pradhan said the changes would make consular assistance more accessible to Indians living abroad, particularly those in remote areas who previously faced logistical hurdles.

The digital push is part of a broader effort to modernize consular operations and align with India's global push for e-governance. Pradhan emphasized that the upgraded systems would allow applicants to track their requests in real time and receive updates directly, cutting out third-party agents who often charge extra fees.

The announcement comes amid a survey showing that European countries hold largely favorable views of India, with nine of ten surveyed nations reporting positive sentiment. In contrast, American attitudes were more skeptical, a gap that consular officials hope to bridge through improved outreach and services.

Separately, several U.S. governors and city councils have issued proclamations recognizing August 15 as India Day, reflecting the growing visibility of the Indian American community. Pradhan's digital initiatives are expected to further strengthen ties by making it easier for diaspora members to engage with Indian authorities.
