India Surpasses UK as Australia’s Top Source of Skilled Migrants

The latest census data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that Indian-born residents now number over 970,000, surpassing the UK-born population for the first time in the country's history. The shift reflects decades of changing immigration patterns, with skilled migration from India accelerating since the early 2000s.

According to the 2021 census, Indian-born Australians make up about 3.8% of the total population, while the UK-born share has declined to around 3.6%.
