Shweta Maurya, appointed to California Office of Data and Innovation

Maurya, who holds a degree in mechanical engineering, will oversee product development and innovation initiatives at the Office of Data and Innovation, a department tasked with improving state services through data-driven approaches.

Her appointment was announced by Governor Gavin Newsom's office as part of a broader effort to bring technology expertise into state government.

Before joining the state, Maurya worked at Chime, a financial technology company, where she managed strategy, operations, and technology programs. She also held a similar role at Amazon, focusing on operational efficiency and product delivery.

The Office of Data and Innovation was established in 2021 to help state agencies use data and human-centered design to better serve Californians. Maurya's private sector experience is expected to support these goals.

Her appointment reflects a continuing trend of the Newsom administration recruiting tech professionals from major companies to modernize state operations.
