The event was organized by Tamils of Northern California (TNC), a community group that began informally in the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 1980s. The organization incorporated as a non-profit in 1994 and received federal non-profit status from the IRS in 1996.

TNC regularly hosts cultural and social gatherings for the Tamil community in Northern California. The Easter and New Year event is one of its annual celebrations, bringing together families and community members.
