Vinayak Agarwal, an associate professor at Georgia Tech and an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, has been awarded the Bridge Award by the Research Corporation for Science Advancement. The RCSA, a U.S.-based nonprofit that supports scientific research and STEM education, grants the award to early-career scientists.

The Bridge Award comes with a $100,000 prize. It is designed to support researchers who are transitioning from postdoctoral to independent faculty positions, helping them bridge the gap between initial funding and major grants.

Agarwal's research focuses on understanding how microbial communities function at the molecular level, with implications for human health and environmental sustainability. His work at Georgia Tech involves studying the chemical interactions between microorganisms.

The RCSA selects awardees based on the novelty and potential impact of their research proposals. Agarwal's project aims to develop new tools for probing microbial communication, which could lead to advances in treating infections or engineering beneficial microbiomes.
