IIT Delhi alumnus Vinayak Agarwal, tech award winner

The Bridge Award is designed to support mid-career scientists who are exploring new, high-risk research directions. Agarwal's work focuses on the chemical ecology of marine microorganisms, particularly how bacteria produce natural products that could lead to new antibiotics or other therapeutic compounds.

Agarwal earned his undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from IIT Delhi before moving to the United States for graduate studies. He joined Georgia Tech's School of Biological Sciences, where his lab investigates the molecular mechanisms behind microbial interactions and their potential applications in medicine.

The RCSA selects awardees through a competitive process, recognizing researchers whose projects have the potential to open new avenues of inquiry. Agarwal's proposal was noted for its originality and potential to bridge gaps between chemistry, biology, and ecology.

With the funding, Agarwal plans to expand his research into underexplored marine environments, aiming to uncover novel biochemical pathways. The award also provides networking opportunities with other scientists in the RCSA community.
