FIU Energy Researcher Arif Sarwat Wins 2026 World Class Faculty Award

Arif Sarwat, a professor at Florida International University's College of Engineering and Computing, was named the recipient of the 2026 World Class Faculty Award by the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance. The award recognizes faculty members who contribute significantly to the region's economic competitiveness.

Sarwat, who also serves as the director of the Energy, Power, and Sustainability (EPS) Lab at FIU, has been instrumental in developing research initiatives that bridge academia and industry. His work focuses on smart grid technologies, renewable energy integration, and cybersecurity for power systems.

The Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, the economic development organization for Broward County, presents the award annually to a faculty member whose research and partnerships help attract businesses and talent to the region. Sarwat's collaborations with local utilities and technology companies have been cited as a key factor in his selection.

In his acceptance, Sarwat emphasized the importance of translating academic research into practical solutions that benefit the local economy. He has led several projects funded by the National Science Foundation and the Department of Energy, contributing to FIU's reputation as a hub for energy innovation.
