Mount Sinai Appoints Acclaimed Cardiologist Dr. Samin K. Sharma as Clinical Cardiology Chief

Dr. Sharma, known for his expertise in complex coronary interventions, will oversee the department's clinical activities, including patient care and procedural standards. His appointment reflects the health system's focus on advancing interventional cardiology services.

A graduate of the University of Bombay, Dr. Sharma completed his residency and fellowship at Mount Sinai, where he has served for over three decades. He is credited with pioneering techniques in angioplasty and stenting, particularly for patients with severe coronary artery disease.

In his new role, Dr. Sharma will also mentor junior cardiologists and drive research initiatives. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed papers and has been instrumental in clinical trials evaluating new devices and therapies.

Mount Sinai's leadership cited Dr. Sharma's clinical acumen and dedication to patient-centered care as key factors in the appointment. He succeeds Dr. Valentin Fuster, who will remain as director of Mount Sinai Heart.

Dr. Sharma's appointment takes effect immediately, with plans to expand access to advanced cardiac care across Mount Sinai's network.
