Indian American Researchers Win Prestigious Jackson Professorships at UW-Madison

The appointments, announced this month, recognize early-career faculty with exceptional promise in research and teaching. Pasayat and Gupta join a distinguished list of scholars who have held the title since its establishment in 1937.

Pasayat, who focuses on semiconductor devices and photonics, previously worked as a postdoctoral researcher at MIT. Gupta, whose research centers on machine learning theory and algorithms, earned his PhD from Cornell University.

The Jackson Professorship provides funding to support the recipients' research programs and professional development. It is named after Dugald C. Jackson, a former head of the university's electrical engineering department.

Both researchers will begin their terms in the fall semester, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses while continuing their ongoing projects. The department said the selections were based on their innovative contributions and potential to advance the field.
