Indian American Researchers Win Prestigious Jackson Professorships at UW-Madison

The appointments, announced this month, recognize early-career faculty with exceptional promise in research and teaching. Pasayat and Gupta join a distinguished list of scholars who have held the Jackson title since its establishment in 1964.

Pasayat, who focuses on semiconductor devices and photonics, has been with the department since 2022. Her research explores advanced materials for next-generation computing and communication systems.

Gupta, a computer scientist specializing in machine learning theory, joined UW-Madison in 2023. His work addresses reliability and fairness in AI algorithms, with applications in high-stakes decision-making.

The Jackson Professorship, named after a former UW-Madison engineering dean, provides funding and recognition to support the recipients' research programs. Both professors will hold the title for a five-year term.
