Volunteers Needed to Pack Meals for Starving Children in 2026

The event, organized by the nonprofit Feed the Future, took place at the Dallas Convention Center on Saturday. Participants worked in two-hour shifts to package rice, soy, and vitamin powder into sealed bags.

Each meal provides a complete serving of protein, carbohydrates, and essential micronutrients. The packages are designed to be shelf-stable for up to two years, allowing for efficient transport to remote areas.

The meals will be shipped to refugee camps in South Sudan and Yemen, where acute malnutrition rates among children under five have exceeded 15 percent. Feed the Future expects the shipment to arrive within six weeks.

Volunteers included families, corporate teams, and local student groups. Organizers said the effort required 10,000 pounds of rice, 4,000 pounds of soy, and 1,500 pounds of vitamin mix.

The drive is part of a larger campaign to pack 1 million meals by the end of 2026. Similar events are planned in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York.
