The series follows an Indian-American actor in Hollywood who pushes back against reductive racial stereotypes as he tries to build a career. Kumar created the show to reflect a more nuanced experience than the typical roles offered to South Asian performers.

Prema Creative Co. will focus on producing content that centers underrepresented voices, with 'Typecast' as its first project. Kumar, who has worked in the entertainment industry for years, said the studio aims to tell stories that feel authentic to his community.

The 14 episodes are designed for vertical viewing, a format popular on mobile platforms. The show is scheduled to premiere on September 7, with further distribution details to be announced.

Kumar's move comes as streaming services and social media platforms increasingly invest in short-form, mobile-first content. By launching his own studio, he gains creative control over the narratives he wants to tell.
