The series follows an Indian-American actor who works in Hollywood while pushing back against reductive racial tropes. Kumar, who created the show, said the premise draws from his own experiences in the industry.

Prema Creative Co., based in Los Angeles, will focus on producing digital-first content. The studio's first project, Typecast, is designed for vertical viewing, a format popular on mobile platforms.

Kumar has worked as a creator and performer in the entertainment space. With the new studio, he aims to develop stories that center South Asian voices without relying on stereotypical portrayals.

Typecast will release its episodes starting September 7. The series is part of a broader push by independent creators to build niche audiences through direct-to-consumer platforms.
