Indian-American communities in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Houston held large-scale yoga sessions on June 21 to mark International Yoga Day 2026. The events were organized by local cultural associations and yoga studios, drawing participants of all ages and backgrounds.

In Times Square, more than 5,000 people performed synchronized yoga postures at sunrise, led by instructors from India and the United States. The New York event included a meditation session focused on global peace and environmental awareness.

Chicago's Grant Park hosted a day-long festival with workshops on breathing techniques, Ayurveda, and traditional Indian dance. Organizers said attendance doubled from the previous year, reflecting growing interest in yoga among non-Indian Americans.

San Francisco's event at Golden Gate Park featured a live-streamed session connecting participants with yoga practitioners in India. Houston's celebration included a free community lunch and a talk on the health benefits of yoga, emphasizing its role in stress reduction.

The United Nations declared June 21 as International Yoga Day in 2014, following a proposal by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Indian-American groups have since become key organizers of local events, promoting yoga as a tool for physical and mental well-being.
