UGC Approves Victoria University Australia Campus in Gurugram

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has formally approved Victoria University's (VU) application to establish a campus in Gurugram, Delhi-NCR. The campus will open for the academic session beginning August 2026, making it one of the first Australian universities to set up a full-fledged campus in India under the new regulations.

VU, headquartered in Melbourne, will offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs at the Gurugram campus. The university plans to introduce courses in business, information technology, engineering, and health sciences, with the curriculum and teaching standards aligned with its Australian operations.

The approval follows the UGC's 2022 guidelines allowing foreign universities to establish campuses in India. VU is among the early applicants to navigate the process, which includes meeting infrastructure, faculty, and quality assurance requirements.

The new campus will be located in Gurugram's educational hub, with construction and staffing underway. VU officials said the campus will initially accommodate around 1,000 students, with plans to expand in subsequent years.

Students at the Gurugram campus will have the option to transfer to VU's Melbourne campus for a semester or full degree, subject to academic performance and visa requirements. The university will also offer scholarships for Indian students, with details to be announced closer to the admission cycle.
