The Global e-Cricket Premier League (GEPL) will now be broadcast across the United States and Canada after JetSynthesys struck a distribution deal with Willow TV, a network dedicated to South Asian sports. The agreement marks the first time the tournament has reached international television audiences.
GEPL, which features eight city-based franchises competing in virtual cricket matches, launched in India earlier this year. The league uses a mix of professional gamers and cricket celebrities, with matches played on the popular mobile game World Cricket Championship.
Under the partnership, Willow TV will air GEPL matches live on its linear channel and streaming platform. The network, which already carries major cricket events such as the Indian Premier League and international test matches, will add the e-cricket league to its programming lineup.
JetSynthesys, a Pune-based digital entertainment company, said the move aligns with its goal of growing e-sports in cricket-loving markets. The company has not disclosed financial terms of the agreement or the duration of the broadcast rights.
The first GEPL season is scheduled to run through late 2023, with playoffs and a final expected to draw viewers from both the Indian diaspora and local cricket fans in North America.
