Indian American Entrepreneur Launches Culturally Blended Flor de India Hotel in San Juan

The Flor de India hotel, which opened this month, occupies a historic building in Old San Juan. The property was originally constructed in 1929 and has been repurposed into a 12-room adults-only boutique hotel.

Preeti, the Indian American entrepreneur behind the project, invested $4 million in the renovation. The design merges the original Spanish colonial architecture with Indian artistic elements, including hand-carved wooden furniture, vibrant textiles, and intricate tile work.

Each room features a unique color palette inspired by Indian festivals and spices. The hotel also includes a rooftop terrace with views of the San Juan Bay and a small courtyard garden.

Preeti said the goal was to create a space that reflects her dual heritage. The hotel's name, Flor de India, translates to "Flower of India" in Spanish, a nod to the cultural fusion.

The property is located on Calle del Cristo, a street known for its historic churches and shops. It is the first hotel in Puerto Rico to explicitly blend Indian and Spanish design traditions.
