Bengaluru Man Arrested After Obscene Gesture at Woman During Flipkart Delivery

The incident occurred on Tuesday when Vijay Mallikarjun Kamat, a delivery executive for the e-commerce company Flipkart, arrived at a woman's apartment in the city's eastern suburb of Kadugodi to deliver a package. According to police, Kamat forced his way into the apartment and exposed his private parts to the woman, who was alone at the time.

The woman, who has not been identified, immediately called the police. Officers from the Whitefield police station responded and arrested Kamat on the spot. He was booked under sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).

Police said Kamat, a resident of Kadugodi, was produced before a local court and remanded to judicial custody. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are checking whether he has a history of similar offenses.

Flipkart, in a statement, said it was aware of the incident and had suspended the delivery executive pending an internal inquiry. The company said it is cooperating with the police and has offered support to the victim.

The arrest comes amid growing concerns over the safety of customers during doorstep deliveries, with several e-commerce companies facing scrutiny over the background checks of their delivery personnel.
